Fish Tank Analogy

Think of your body as a fish tank. Think of the importance of maintaining the integrity of the internal fluids of the body that we “swim” in daily. Imagine the fish in this tank are your cells and organ systems bathed in fluids, which transport food and remove wastes.

Now imagine we back up a car and put the tailpipe up against the air intake filter that supplies the oxygen for the water in the tank. The water becomes filled with carbon monoxide, lowering the alkaline pH, creating and acidic pH environment, and threatening the health of the “fish,” your cells and organs.

What if we throw in too much food or the wrong kind of food (acid-producing food like dairy, sugar, and animal protein) and the fish are unable to consume or digest it all, and it starts to decompose and putrefy? Toxic acid waste and chemicals build up as the food breaks down, creating more acidic byproducts, altering the optimum alkaline pH.

Basically, this is a small example of what we may be doing to our internal fluids every day. We are fouling them with pollution, smoking, drugs, excessive intake of food, over-consumption of acid-forming foods, and any number of transgressions which compromise the delicate balance of our internal alkaline fluids.

Some of us have fish tanks (bodies) that are barely able to support life, yet we somehow manage to struggle from day to day, building more severe imbalances until there is the inevitable crash and debilitating chronic, disturbing and disorganizing symptoms to deal with.

Why we need alkaline fluids…

Acids create imbalance and it takes 20 parts of alkalinity to neutralize 1 part of acid. What we eat, think and drink, such as, stress; negative emotions and thoughts; polluted environment and some of the foods we eat can create acid. Acids go to the weakest part of the body wreaking havoc. This is the root of all dis-ease. Symptomologies like headaches, diabetes, heart challenges, gout, allergies, high cholesterol, etc. can occur. Wherever there is pain in the body there is acid.

Cutting fat from your diet leads to more fat loss than reducing carbohydrates, a US health study shows.

Scientists intensely analysed people on controlled diets by inspecting every morsel of food, minute of exercise and breath taken.

Both diets, analysed by the National Institutes of Health, led to fat loss when calories were cut, but people lost more when they reduced fat intake.

Experts say the most effective diet is one people can stick to.

It has been argued that restricting carbs is the best way to get rid of a “spare tyre” as it alters the body’s metabolism.

I’m an avid jogger so this article was near and dear to me and pretty much on the mark :-). It has some foul language in the article so be aware. It seems like every time I start a jog I’m in a little bit of pain but by the end of the jog, it’s gone! When I jog I think about the pain in different parts of my body and trying to reduce it, my focus areas for the day, things I’m grateful for, beautiful things I see when jogging (many times I jog on the beach so there are a lot), and managing my risk (paying attention to cars, other people, where I jog, pavement, rocks, etc). It’s all good!

A first-of-its kind study that had runners record their thoughts on the go clears that up. It turns out that the 10 amateur long-distance runners in the study spent 32% of their time thinking about the “pain and discomfort” they were in, say researchers. (The runs were at least 7 miles.)

In fairness, they spent 40% of their time thinking about pace and distance (“downhill, don’t kill yourself, just cruise”) and the rest of the time thinking about their running environment (“it’s so beautiful, the ocean, the mountains” and “hope I don’t see any snakes”).

Restaurant food not much healthier than fast food

(Reuters Health) – Home cooking is still the best way to control the calories, fat, sugar and other nutrients that families consume, a new U.S. study suggests.

Researchers found that eating food from restaurants – whether from fast food places, or better establishments – led to increases in calories, fat and sodium compared to meals made at home.

Public health interventions targeting dining-out behavior in general, rather than just fast food, may be warranted to improve the way Americans’ eat, says the study’s author.

Ruopeng An, a professor of kinesiology and community health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, noted that people have previously equated fast food with junk food.

“But, people don’t know much about the food provided by full-service restaurants and if it is better or healthier compared to fast food or compared to food prepared and consumed at home,” An told Reuters Health.
